Folklore stories
Folklore stories are considered as an integral part of modern day English literature. There are many readers who prefer reading folklore stories over the other branches of literature. Folklore stories have a focused theme and a proper flow. These stories are generally related to different events which have occurred in the old times and are carried forward by different people. The content of these stories can vary a bit but their essential moral is always the same. Folklore stories can have different categories such as stories related to legends, proverbs, popular beliefs, jokes, oral history, music, traditions, religious beliefs and different practices adopted by a certain society. The concept and study of folklore stories began in the Europe in the mid of eighteenth century. These folklore stories manifested primarily in the United Kingdom and then became famous in other parts of the world. But it has to be kept in mind that there is a lot of difference between folklore stories and mythical stories. Folklore stories can be divided into four main categories; oral tradition, artifacts, rituals and customs.
Types of folklore stories
The first category of folklore stories includes the artifacts and their history. It includes different items and objects used in religious practices, dolls, handmade; crafts, houses, barns and clothes. These all comprise the materialistic elements from any culture. The other prominent icon of the folklore stories include the depiction of three monkeys which have been described as wise creatures. They are used differently in every other culture to give a specific lesson or deliver a positive message for the readers. The second category includes the oral tradition of folklore in a combination with the mythical touch. For this purpose stories of different cultures and people are related as folk stories. This category can also include topics from daily life and other prominent icons of the history.
The mythical touch comes from the belief that the pictures or different figures in the folk stories have no connection with the imminent characters of any time and it does not match with the dominant beliefs of the people. Such type of folklore stories can also have a direct connection with the religious beliefs, customs and traditions of any particular religion. Oral traditional stories can be related as matching stories of diverse cultures as they have the same theme and agenda. It can be proved by reading different folk stories of various writers which have different backgrounds in regard to their culture and religious tradition. These folklore stories have no link with the deep physiological issues but can link directly with the religious customs of different societies.
These folklore stories can have a significant message relating to different problems on earth of suffering, death and famine. It totally depends on the method of narrating a folklore story it can provide entertainment, lesson and teaching or give the value of any specific human ideology of positive behavior. In oral folk stories there can be various topics for different age’s groups such as children, women, youth and older men. They can give message in the form of riddles, gossips, children rhymes, ethnic stereotypes, holidays, everyday life, ghost stories and rumors. The most pure form of ancient folklore stories exists in the Roman and Greek culture. These folk stories give different messages in the form of religious and cultural stories.
Cultural Effect of Folklore stories
According to various folklore stories which have been written in the history of mankind, on different subjects offer an insight into cultural characteristics of different societies. Folklore stories have a deep cultural impact on the life of human beings. These folklore stories give account of different customs and traditions in different societies and links them together. Cultural stories give an account of how people spend their everyday lives in appositive manner. These folklore stories always carry a positive meaning regardless of the background or essence of that particular culture. Those may be folklore stories from the American, English or Indian cultures but with a productive meaning. They focus greatly on supernatural, religious, political beliefs, humor and other essential values. The cultural and ritual teachings can be combined on a single platform as both of them have the same meaning.
